Kahlua Coffees

Who would have thought that coffee and alcohol would be combined to make a new type of drink, with the flavors of coffee and alcohol? Yes, someone dared to dream and came up with Kahlúa, a unique coffee liqueur that you can add with your favorite alcoholic drink.

Kahlua Coffees

The legendary story of the Kahlúa began in 1936 when four friends, the Alvarez brothers, Montalvo Lara, and Senior Blanco decided to follow their heart. One of the four came up with the idea, two forked out the tasteful and rich Arabica coffee and the last one, who was a chemist, turned the idea into reality. Kahlúa is made and crafted from the best ingredients that grow in rural Veracruz, Mexico. Even the world, Kahlúa, is tied to the ancient Arabic languages and roughly translates to coffee.

Kahlúa might have had simple beginnings, but the manufacturing process was anything but simple. After harvesting the coffee and the cane from Mexico, the coffee beans were dried, de-husked and stored for at least six months. After this point, the coffee beans were roasted, ground and brewed.

The sugar cane spirit that was featured was produced after the cane has been gathered and juiced. This juice was then reduced to form molasses to which yeast and water were added to produce an alcoholic content in the Kahlúa. Overall, after eight weeks, the Kahlúa is filtered, bottled and ready for consumption.

The company merged with Allied Lyons and became known as Allied Domecqin 1994. In 2005, Perno Ricard, the world’s biggest distributor of spirits, acquired this company partially.

The alcohol content in the Kahlúa was lessened from 26.5% to 20% since 2004. Also, the more high-end product called the Kahlúa Especial was made available for the Australian, Canadian and the North American market.

Why Kahlúa Coffees?

Originating in Mexico, the Kahlúa has become the #1 selling coffee liqueur in the world today. Kahlúa stands for a rich heritage – full of color and diversity- ever since 1936. The Kahlúa original coffee liqueur is the hero ingredient in many cult drinks and cocktails like the Mind Eraser, Espresso Martini, and the White Russian. It is capable of turning an average evening into a different and fun social highlight.

Tasting notes

Its brown color is deep and attractive. The Kahlúa original coffee liqueur has a very enticing scent of bittersweet roasted chestnut, coffee beans, and the multi-layered flavors of sweet butter and black coffee.

There are many recipes that you can make by yourself. All you need is the Kahlúa coffee liqueur. Some great recipes are as follows:

Espresso Martini

This drink was invented when a special cocktail was requested at the Dick Bradsells bar. Unexpectedly strong, edgy and sophisticated, the espresso martini is one of the most popular cocktails today. Creating this cocktail from scratch is also very easy.

All you need is an espresso machine and a shaker. While it might sound complicated, it is just mixing coffee and booze. Mix the Kahlúa, espresso and Absolut Vodka with a lot of ice. Strain all the ingredients into a cocktail glass and remove the small ice chips via a strainer. For the optimal frothiness, shake the shaker for 10 seconds.

Kahlúa cold brew soda

If someone asks you to choose between a Kahlúa with soda and a Kahlúa with cold brew coffee, this might be a difficult choice. But this drink combines the best of both worlds to bring you a refreshing summer-time classic. This is a perfect combination of cold coffee and alcohol.

To make this recipe, all you need is a glass or a jar. Fill it up with ice first. Next, add cold brew and Kahlúa and stir. Top the drink with soda and garnish with orange wheels or lemons. The refreshing drink is ready for consumption.

Kahlúa ginger ale

Most of us have already heard of adding ginger in tea. But adding ginger ale to a coffee flavored liqueur might probably be unheard of. While this is not much of a famous concoction, it will definitely blow your mind away.

The process of making the Kahlúa ginger ale is a comparatively easy one. All you need to do is fill a glass with ice cubes and pour three parts of ginger ale and one part of Kahlúa. You can garnish the drink with an orange wheel, orange wedge or a slice of orange for that wow factor.

Cold brew martini

Most people like to think that this drink was invented in Williamsburg, but in reality, no one is sure about it at all. But if you have not experienced this drink, you probably have missed out on something major and you will not truly experience the south side of any major city.

Take a shaker and fill it up with ice. Add three parts of cold brew coffee, two parts of Kahlúa, and one part of Absolut vodka. Mix and shake all these ingredients for at least 10 seconds to create a nice and frothy foam. Strain the cocktail into a glass and strain all the small ice chips. You can garnish this drink with nice coffee beans.

Kahlúa Collins

The Kahlúa Collins is an incredible twist on a classic. It has a very refreshing taste of coffee that is combined with fresh lemon. In fact, no one would be surprised if you go back and have some more of it again.

While this drink is surely great, it is a bit more technical to make than others on this list. You need to first fill a highball glass with ice and add ¼ parts simple syrup, ¾ parts of fresh lemon juice and one part of Kahlúa. Mix it all in and add two parts of soda water. Finish garnishing the drink with a cherry on the top.

White Russian

Made of cream, Vodka, and Kahlúa, this drink is perhaps one of the most popular coffee liqueurs and brings people together. The White Russian is an age-old classic and is always abiding. There is no chance that it will not work.

First, fill up a rocks glass with ice cubes and add Absolut Vodka and Kahlúa. Mix it up properly and finish it with a cream layer. While adding the cream might not be picture perfect, you can make it camera-worthy by making use of the back of a spoon. For a less calorific version, you can make use of soymilk, skim milk, or milk.

The Kahlúa has revolutionized the way people see coffee and alcohol. While these drinks might be delicious, it is advised that you do not drink and drive. Always drink responsibly and enjoy the new and crazy taste of coffee and alcohol together!
