Organic coffee

Organic coffee is usually certified by several companies and with one of the major one being USDA an agriculture department in the USA. Coffee certified by this company must be at least being grown under the organic conditions 95 percent.

For the organic coffee farmers, they are not to use any form of artificial products on their coffee crops to increase fertility, yields, remove weed or protect the crops against diseases and pests. Coffee is organic labeled only if in the last three years no chemicals have been applied to the coffee beans.

Producers of organic coffee

Seventy five percent of the total organic coffee produced worldwide is sourced from the Latin American countries. Other countries producing organic coffee include some Asian and African countries like Ethiopia and Indonesia.

Peru was once a leading organic coffee producing in the country with about 423 000 bags in the year 2010 as exports. Mexico produces 100 000 bags annually as well as Honduras. Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia and Brazil are also great organic coffee producers.
